Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, Director of Student Affairs and Professor of Environmental Chemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), has been elected a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS), an international body that recognises distinguished contributions to science, the arts, humanities and public service. 

The announcement was conveyed in a letter from the Academy's Secretary General, Janani Ramanathan, congratulating Professor Nkansah on her election and welcoming her to the global network of Fellows.

"On behalf of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS), I am happy to inform you that you have been elected a Fellow of WAAS. I am honoured to welcome you to the Academy," the letter stated.

The Secretary General noted that Fellows are invited to participate in the Academy's activities, including its conferences, publications and international engagements.

Founded in 1960, the World Academy of Art and Science is an independent international organisation comprising more than 700 Fellows from over 90 countries. Its membership includes scientists, scholars, artists, policymakers and global leaders elected for distinguished accomplishments and their commitment to addressing major global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Professor Nkansah, an environmental chemist, is widely recognised for her research on environmental pollution, toxic substances and food safety. Her work has contributed to scientific understanding of contaminants in food, water and the environment and has informed public health and environmental policy. 

Over the years, Prof. Nkansah she has received several international honours, including the Fayzah M. Al-Kharafi Prize, the OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Women Scientists in Africa, and election as a Fellow of the International Science Council (ISC). She is also a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
